Zurich, Switzerland

Zurich, the "little big city" is Switzerland's largest city and one of the world's financial captials. But with a population of just 365'000 people and an excellent public transport infrastructure, the city is easily manageable for tourists.

The city of zurich is located at the northern end of the lake of Zurich (Zürichsee) on Switzerland's north-central plain. The city itself is at an altitude of 400m and is framed by picturesque hills, rising up to 813m at the peak of Üetliberg.

Zurich's well-preserved old town is only a few minutes walk from the main train station (Hauptbahnhof). This traffic-free area has narrow, winding streets to explore and is dotted with delicatessens, small boutiques, bars and cafés.

Attractions

Shopping on Bahnhofstrasse

Shopping on Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse isn't for those on tight budgets, but everyone can at least enjoy a stroll down this elegant street and admire the world's finest watches, jewelery, chocolates, clothing and other items on display.

Fraumünster and Grossmünster

These impressive churches are located inthe centre of Zurich. A church was build on the site of the Fraumünster way back in 874 and the modern Fraumünster dates from the 13th century. The beautiful stained glass windows were created by Marc Chagall in the 1970's.

Lindt & Sprüngli chocolate factory

Swiss chocolate is delectable and Lindt & Sprüngli are the masters of Swiss chocolate. A tour of the chocolate factory and museum just south of the city centre is a must for self-confessed chocolate lovers.
